Hershey's FIRST present

Rudolf and Goofy mailed me a hugggggge package last week but because Hershey's name was also on the parcel, evil mom made me let her open it since it's her very first mail/ present. Is this what older siblings have to put up with? Oh well, whatever... I'll just make sure she gives me what is rightfully mine.

I wanna share with you an interesting incident when Mom went to the post office to collect the parcel:

Post office Lady:
Wow, this package is addressed to 3 people, Shane, Huskee and Hershey, so which one is you? Also, I'll need your ID card.
Mom: Erm... I am Shane, the other 2 are my dogs.
******* awkward silence for 30 seconds ******
Post office Lady: Your dogs have mail??!
********* more awkward silence *********
Mom: Yup, this package is a present from their friends.
Post office Lady: *incredulous tone* Your dogs have friends who sends them presents??
Mom: ** shuts up and hands over ID card**

Hershey: At the count to 3, I'll rip it apart with my teefies...

Look! One for ME, me, me..., one for Big Bro and one for mama!!

Posing prettily with MY pressie from Rudolf and Goofy.. Thank you guys *wink*

Pics of Hershey 'enjoying' her new squeaky toy **squeak squeak squeak**

Thank you Aunty Drea...

While she is having fun sinking her razor sharp teefies into her new toy, I get some peace and quiet opening MY pressie. Sorry no pics of me and my pressie 'cos you know what, the lousy camera's battery DIED 'cos mom must have overworked it by taking way too many pics of that Skunkee!! ** SULKS **

I caught mom beaming very happily on Sunday morning and overheard her telling dad that she has her 'own' brand name after her in Korea. I wonder what it means... (1953??!! Wow weeee... I never knew my mom was born in 1953!!) She kept insisting that she was born in the 70's but after this piece of evidence, who'd believe her? Hiak hiak...

Thanks to Girl Girl's Eil for this wonderful pressie!! Mom is so touched that Eil bought it for her while she's on holiday (and visiting Mr Rain) in Korea. Now she can't wait to wear the cap.. THANKS Aunty Eil.. *muacks*

First and foremost, Happy Barkday to my Brother-in-law, Boy!! He's been the best big brother to my wife, Baby... Boy, here's wishing you good health and lots of yummy treats always!

No prizes for guessing correctly what Skunkee's 'real' name is... Some of the criteria for selecting her name:
  1. Must begin with 'H' (so that we have something similar... But correct me if I'm wrong, isn't 'Skunkee' more similar to 'Huskee'??)

  2. Must be 2 syllable

Mom came up with a list of 'edible' names for the Skunk, like Oreo, Muffin, Cookie (I think Mom must be hungry at that time, or else how else can you explain this??). My GR friend Tommy's mom suggested 'Cecilia', and we can call her 'Cecy' in short. One another name that mom really liked (not something edible this time) is 'Shadow' cos the skunk kept following her around the house like a shadow when she first arrived. While we were deciding on her name, dad kept calling her 'Princess' (*puke puke*) and they almost stuck with that. They sometimes still refer to her as 'princess' (*more puking*). Hey, wait a minute.. if she is 'Princess', I must be 'Prince' right?? How is it that they call her 'Princess' but never ever called me 'Prince'??!)

I still think Skunkee suits her best..

My first encounter with Skunk(ee)..

Since I my name is 'Huskee' and she is my sissy, we should have something in common right? So I have decided to bestow on her the name **drumroll** ----- Skunkee..... Huskee and Skunkee.. Nice right? (Huskee's mom: NO!! Her name is definitely not 'Skunkee'!!)

Below are the pics taken from our first meeting on neutral grounds, i.e. the playground downstairs. Skunkee was a bit too friendly for comfort... I prefer girls to be a little more *ahem* prim and demure.

Me feeling unsure about the hyperactive, jumpy black and white furball with razor sharp teefies..

Scary eyes... And did you see mom's 'light sabre'?? I tried to warn Skunkee to careful of it 'cos if she pees in the wrong place again, she'd get a taste of the 'light sabre'... (OK OK, that's just the reflective part from Skunkee's leash)

Handsome ol' me...

I received this gold card from my friends Hershey & Kaci as well as from Kirby!! Isn't it awesome?? The rules of this award are:

1. Only five people allowed.
2. Four have to be dedicated followers of your blog.
3. One has to be someone new or recently new to your blog and live in another part of the world.
4. You must link back to whoever gave you the award.

I'd like to pass on the award to my friends Pedro, Mango, Lady Kaos, Moco and Mona.

Last but definitely not least, Jackson's opawration went well and hopefully he'd be able to go home to celebrate his barkday this Friday!! It'd be a double celebration!! Please continue to cross your paws and send him pawsitive vibes!!

Not sure if any of you guessed correctly... I really got a skunk from dad and mom for my birthday. (Huskee's mom *warning tone*: Huskee!! Please be nice!!) Oh ok ok.. she's not a skunk but she does LOOK like one right?

When mom brought me home that night, I got the biggest shock of my life to see that the present that I was so looking forward to initially... is actually a pup. Gee.. thanks people, like I really needed someone else to share my treats, toys and all the attention with. Mom told me that the skunk .. oops, I meant pup, is only 3.5 months old and I don't believe her because this pup is almost my size! And look what she did once we let her out of the cage... Her very first pee pee IN the house. Can't believe how she got away with peeing in the house! I mean, when SHE pees in the house, the humans take a picture of it... When I pee in the house, I get punished for it... WTF?!!!

Here are some pics of 'Little Miss Innocent'...

Huskee: Nooooooo.... Mom can you get a refund for this 'pressie'? PLEASE??!

Can you change it to a bag of treats or a squeaky toy??

Thursday, August 7, 2008

I am one lucky pup!! Both Mango and Deefor gave me some great awards. tHaNk YoU, guys... you are the greatest!

I'd like to pass the award on to:

Moosie had a 'bath' the other day... I think she enjoys her bath more than me and she loves to dry herself with the little towel. (Can you see her little 'tail tail'?)

Here's a pic of me and Moosie... (She's telling me about her bath & beauty routine but I am trying my best to ignore her!!).

*** Impawtant Note ***

Mom also wants me to thank every pup and their humans on her behalf for the your lovely barkday wishes. *Hugs* She did manage to get through the day and she had a quiet dinner at home with papa.

Yesterday she took me aside and told me that there is a B.I.G surprise for me since my barkday is also just around the corner ** excited **. She is not telling me what it is until tomorrow (guess it'd be an early pressie!). I can't wait to rip open the box to uncover the 'treasures' within (more squeaky toys hopefully)!!

Mom did give me some hints on my pressie, the clues are:

  • It's black and white
  • It has razor sharp teefies ** startled look**
  • It DOES sqeak (once in a while)

I wonder what my pressie is... any idea anyone??!

Today is mama's birthday but unlike all the previous years where she used to celebrate this day with much fanfare, i.e. countless dinners with friends and the traditional barbeque with the whole family (Mom's birthday and her sister aka The Maid's birthday is just 4 days apart so they always have some sort of a joint-celebration since they were young). However, this year is going to be 'quiet' cos she does not want to 'celebrate'. This is because other than being mom's birthday, today also marks another occasion. It is the 49th day since mama and papa lost Lucas.

My parents are not exactly 'Buddhist' per se, but they both have grown up in Buddist environments/ families, so they are more 'inclined' that way. Anyway according to the Buddists, 'for 49 days after death the individual wanders between the land of the dead and that of the living; after this period the mechanism of karma decides in which body it will be reincarnated.' So if you believe in this belief, then today will be the day when Lucas will 'leave' us and move on to the next chapter of his life/ afterlife (??). You may ask why is mama sad since it's a good thing that Lucas is moving on to a better place, well, she is very sad cos the thought of not knowing if they'll ever be reunited again pains her so much.

The one thing that brought some relief was that Jay's mom told mama that today is symbolic because after today, both mama and Lucas will have a new begining. And hopefully, it'd give Lucas the much needed chance to reincarnate and 'come back' as their next baby... well, just hopefully... Anyway, mama is clinging on to this thought and she is trying to focus on it so that she can get through the rest of the day in one piece.

Huskee's mom: Sometimes, simply trying to look strong and act strong can be so, so, so tiring...

I am enjoying a rare moment of cuddle/ ear-rub that is caught on camera. I am normally quite 'camera-shy' and will try to look away just at the exact moment mama presses the shutter. I tell you that can get her soooo upset.. heehee...

I want to share with you the encounter that mama and papa had last night. After work, they met for dinner before going home together and as it was late already, they decided to just have fast food at KFC (*yummy*) in a shopping mall near to mama's office. When they were almost finished, mama felt something brush against her back, so she spun around in her seat (she had her handbag behind her on the chair) and saw a man do a u-turn and walk quickly out of the shop. She immediately checked inside her bag for her purse (I was told by a 'reliable source' that it costs more than everything in her bag put together, both figuratively and literally). It had sentimental value 'cos papa bought it for her about 2 months ago as a present for giving him Lucas. Now that Lucas is in heaven, the sentimental value of the purse became even higher.

Anyway, her purse was still there but her phone's gone! Papa stood up and went after the guy (mama wanted me to add that when dad was preparing to go after the guy, he was still chewing on a piece of chicken bone/skin. I reckon that it must be his favourite part.. Hahaha..) Well, papa shouted twice at the guy to stop and as the mall was still crowded at that time, the guy did not try to run for it since it'd attract too much attention.. Papa caught up with him easily, took the phone back and gave him some HBO words. And you know what the funny part is? That guy actually offered papa his gold chain and mobile phone in exchange for letting him off. Papa found it quite amusing but he of course rejected his 'offer' and gave him more HBO words...

Mama was quite scared/worried during the entire time cos she was worried that the other guy could've been armed and he'd hurt papa. I only wish I was there at that time too so that I can give that guy a bite with my crooked teefies on where it'd hurt him most.. *insert evil laugh*

I was tagged by Happy for the Unspectacular Quirks Meme. I wasn’t too sure about it at the beginning because it’d mean that I’ll be sharing some pretty embarrassing things about myself!

Here are the rules:

1. Link to the one who tagged you. List the rules on your blog.
2. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
3. Tag some blogger friends with links. Leave a comment on their blog to let them know they've been tagged.

... and below are 6 of my unspectacular quirks:

  1. I like hard boiled eggs… only the egg-yolk though. Please remove the egg-white before you mix them in my food

  2. I like to nibble the tips off grandmama’s potted plants (** Shhh.. don’t tell her that it was me!!**)

  3. After my baths, I like to ‘towel’ dry myself on the hooman’s big big bed…

  4. Whenever one of the hoomans come home, I will never fail to stop whatever I am doing and I will carry a toy in my mouth and bring it over to them

  5. I like getting the insides of my ears cleaned

  6. I prefer the company of hoomans more than that of dogs… (especially after I have successfully trained the hoomans to give me belly/ ear rubs and/ or dispense treats!!)

I will now tag Ronak, Sparky and Kirby to play the game...

Sweet lil' Asta gave me an award! The Big Red Bow is an award of special recognition, for always reminding us to wish each other well and cheer each other on. They are like a bow that ties all of us together.

I want to give this award to ALL my friends, especially the pups and their hoomans who stood by my mom and gave us so much support and words of encouragement during mom’s recent miscarriage. It helped us a whole lot through the bleak period and we are still here because of you. So, all of you, please give accept this award from me! *hugs*

Last week, my pal Petey was advertising for a female friend here and so far, he's gone on 3 exciting dates. Petey is a dashing 5 year old Cairn Terrier living in the West Village of New York City and he is one real romantic guy who knows how to treat his ladies right. Check out his first date with Gaia, his second date with Asta Marie and the third date with Abby.

My little hammie sister Moosie, got wind of his pawsonal ad and started bugging me non-stop to subtlely drop hints to Petey. I had to break it gently to her that Petey won't date outside his species. Moreover, he lives with a kitty cat named Mica and both Petey and I are concerned about how much Mica may like Moosie.. it maybe a bit too much for comfort. See the below message that Mica left in my CBox.. Hehehe...

Here's little Mica... doesn't he look handsome? Maybe Moosie would like to date him instead??

Here's little Moosie for you Petey, in case you change your mind. Although I'm not sure if she likes having salt and pepper sprinkled on her... *evil laugh*...

So girls, go over and say 'hi' to Petey... I'm sure he'd love to hear from you lovelies!! (This, of course excludes you, Baby since you are already married to me)... And don't forget to let me know where you'd like to go for our din din.

I was given the 'Arte y Pico' not just once, not twice but THRICE!! One was given by my good friends, Rudolf & Goofy, another one by Mango, the little Maltese AND the third by my wife Baby and her brother Boy! (Impawtant note: Baby even said on her blog that she gave me this award 'for being the greatest hubby in the whole wide entire doggi-niverse.' Isn't she the best-est? THANK YOU everyone for this honour!!

Here are the details of the award: - 'This award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creativity and their talents, also for contributing to the blogging world in whatever medium. When you receive this award it is considered a special honor." (Extracted from Origin, Sen-Chan & Tom)

Here is the info on the award:
This award was created to be given to bloggers who inspire others with their creativity and their talents, also for contributing to the blogging world in whatever medium. When you receive this award it is considered a special honor. Once you have received this award, you are to pass it on to 5 others.

The Rules:
1) You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserve this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogger community, regardless of language.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award-winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4) Award-winners and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of "
Arte y Pico"blog , so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5) To show these rules.

Many of my friends have already received this award and I want to make sure no one is missed out!! I give this award to Charlie, Moco (I am especially inspired by the post on 'The Poop-o-Matic'), Lady Kaos, Boo Boo and T-man.

I also want to share with you that mom had a major meltdown at work on Tue. One of her colleagues (that very same one whom I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that told her that it was time to 'move on and get over it') started talking very excitedly about one of her friend was in hospital and in labour and her cervix was not dilating and there was contractions, and the pain, and the nausea and blah blah blah... After putting up for about 3 minutes, mom just 'lost it' and walked out of the office. She sat at some smoking corner for about 45mins looking like an absolute fool as she was trying hard to hold back her tears (cos when she walked out, she did not bring anything with her, including tissue, and being the vainpot that she is, she had mascara on... Imagine this, woman sitting alone with mascara running down her face... Not a pretty sight at all!).

I guess she had been trying hard to put on a strong front in the office and pretend like she is ok, but perhaps she really isn't as 'ready' or as 'strong' as she thought she is. Mom wanted to shout at her to say that 'at least your friend is going home with a live, healthy baby, so please freaking stop whingeing and whining'!! Anyway mom is also totally, totally pissed off with that colleague of hers for ripping open her wound AGAIN. Twice is one to many...

Huskee's Mom --- I am sooooooooooooo emotionally and mentally exhausted after this latest episode.... After weeks of trying so hard, I am now back to 'square one'. Felt like someone stabbed me with a knife on my barely healing wound and twisted the knife before removing it. I think this colleague whom I have always treated as a friend really hates me deep down.

I was tagged by Boo Boo to share what can my mom do to make me happy. This is a real tough one... mainly because there are soooooooo many things that can make me a happy... like yummy food, new squeaky toys, belly rubs, etc. (Gee, do you think it's because my expectations are too low?).

After some serious thought, the thing at the top of the list would be this - I want my mom to be happy. If my mom is happy, then I'd be happy too... though it'd be perfect if I can also throw in a new squeaky toy as well... *sheepish grin*...

There's something that I need your views on... I still owe Baby a candlelight din din for her barkday. There are a few locations that I shortlisted, but I just can't decide which one she'd like. So what are your views?

1) At the beach

2) Fine dining restaurant with city view

3) Poolside

Dad bought mom a book from Amazon called 'An Empty Cradle, A Full Heart - Reflections for mothers and fathers after miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death' by Christine O'Keeffe Lafser. The title of the book is so simple, yet meaningful. It's not very thick, only about 250 pages in total and mom finished reading it at one go cos it was so apt (and of cos, she read it through her tears). One particular paragraph stood out - 'Often the people around us can't seem to understand how it could hurt us so badly to lose a baby they think we didn't really know. Since there are no real memories of our little one's life, they have a hard time comprehending the depth of our love and grief. Though they don't mean to hurt us with their attitudes and comments, sometimes their words of comfort sound cruel.' I have previously shared with you about the unwelcome comments/ advice that mom's received from her friends and colleagues, so she could really relate to that paragraph. (Huskee's mom: I JUST got to find out late last week that one of my new colleague who sits near me is 6 months pregnant... I am genuinely happy for her, honestly!! But it really pains me so much to see her baby bump, especially since my Lucas will only be a month younger than her baby if I did not miscarry. Why did her baby get the chance that mine didn't? I find it hard to look at her right now because I'd start to feel so jealous, bitter and sad that I get a lump in my throat and I just want to cry!!!)

I have received so many supportive comments from all of you on my last post, assuring me you'll never 'foresake' us for blogging about all these sadness and unhappiness. I can only say 'THANKS'... Though 'thanks' is just a simple word, but still, it's meant to show your kindness is appreciated more than you can ever know.

Today marks the 'first month anniversary' since mom's miscarriage... Mom went back to work this week and she went into the office real early because she wanted to settle down emotionally before everyone else starts coming in. The first thing that got her crying was the calendar on her desk (yes, she is using a very childish cartoon calendar (*giggle*) and please ignore the messy stuff that she's written all over cos those are her weekly conference call reminders.

If you can see on the left column under 'SUN', she's actually used it to track the week of her pregnancy. It's something that she'd started doing once she found out she was pregnant. So this is 'supposedly' the 18th going on 19th week IF she did not lose the baby. And of course there were other 'reminders' lying around on her desk, like the half eaten bottle of vitamins, the pair of flat sandals under her desk...

After she got through the first day in one piece, the second day was a little better until someone asked her 'Are you pregnant?' She was stumped for a reply... should it be 'Oh yes, I was pregnant but not anymore now. Thank you for asking.' or 'No I am not, but I used to be?!'

In the afternoon, she received a beautiful bouqet of geberas from somepup who is so very thoughtful and sweet. Jay sent this as a surprise to cheer mom up, knowing that she had a tough time on her first day at work. Mom was so touched... And it definitely lifted her spirits! THANK YOU, JAY (and Auntie Julie for paying for Jay's purchase with your ummm.. credit card!! Please don't scold Jay ok?).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huskee's mom --- I do apologise if Huskee's blog had been very 'negative' and filled with gloom lately. I would love to be able to go back to 'before' where I can blog about happy stuff. It's just that there really isn't anything fantastic/ good that's happening in our lives nowadays and nothing really worth talking about. Actually, nothing seems to matter anymore...everything seems so mundane and meaningless... There used to be so much to look forward to, i.e. the new house followed by the baby's arrival. Now the house complete but it'd never be called a 'home' cos it is incomplete... Our baby is not there to complete the picture and turn our 'house' into 'home'.

Nowadays, writing the blog has somehow turned into my own 'diary' (oops.. sorry Huskee!!)... It's become very 'theraputic' for me because this is where I feel I can let out my real emotions and where I won't be judged or have to put up with cruel remarks. The only downside is that I could be boring everyone to tears with my sad 'life story'... !! Seriously, I know that no one wants to read a sob story... I'd much rather read something funny and cheery, so I won't blame you if you decide you don't want to visit this blog anymore!

Tomorrow is hubby's birthday. I don't think there'd be any fancy celebrations this year cos we are just not in the mood to celebrate. Also, it just feels so wrong to be 'celebrating' when we've only just lost Lucas. People say that something like a miscarriage can either break a couple up or strengthen the relationship. I don't know what the future holds for us, but I do know that I love him so much and am so grateful to him for being so strong during my weakest moment. I wouldn't know how I could've managed to get to this stage without him.

Special message to Lucas' Daddy -

Happy Birthday to you, Darling...

With lots of love,

Your wife & sons (Huskee Boy & Angel Lucas)

I (ok, my mom) got a lot of very nice gifts recently. Mainly I guess it's because there are a lot of nice friends out there who want to show that they really care during this very sad period.

This bear is from Girl Girl (Auntie Eil), Jay (Auntie Jul) and Bond and Boo Boo (Auntie Jenn). She comes with her very own 'birth certificate' and they have named her 'Beary Miss U'.. Now how sweet is that?!! She has her own little hat and handbag (and the 3 Aunties left 3 pieces of yummy chocolates in the handbag... mom ate ALL of it without offering any to me...). Anyway, I read somewhere that eating chocolates can make you feel happy (and FAT *giggling*), so I'll let her get away with it this time. I'll let you all into a secret... I am planning to steal the cute straw hat from the bear cos I think my wife will look real stylish wearing it.. what do you think?

Then Maggie & Mitch sent ME a surprise pressie... and it's not even my barkday!! THANK YOU Maggie & Mitch and your wonderful mom!! It is a beautiful wood carving and mom is hanging it on the door to her bedroom. Mom says that looking at that CUTE face cheers her up...
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart... *hugs*

Our very good friends in Australia, Hammer & Family, sent us a beautiful musical ornament (above). It came together with a card and mom was so touched by what Auntie Susan wrote in the card that she 'leaked' while she was reading it. It was happy tears though, not sad ones cos she's touched that Auntie Susan acknowledged the existence of Lucas. To a lot of people that mom spoke with, they don't seem to be able to accept/ acknowledge that Lucas ever existed. Mom also realised that it seem like the people on DWB whom she has never met, appear to understand her pain so much better than some of her 'friends'. She went back to work this morning and immediately, someone came and told her that 'it could be a blessing'... Mom was too stunned to react, but in her head, she was screaming 'you mean it's a blessing that I lost my baby??!'...

Then again, mom realises that the mouth belongs to other people, so they can say whatever they want. You really have no control over 'verbal garbage'... other than to get upset!! Just like a very recent incident where mom read somewhere that another dog owner had insinuated that only purebreed Maltese can be well-behaved (??!).. I reckon this implied that crossbreed dogs are not well-behaved??! Being a crossbreed myself (Maltese X Shih Tzu), I can't help but to feel sad and disappointed that this type of comment came from a fellow dog owner. I guess everyone who genuinely loves their pets wouldn't give a woof whether their 4-legged friends are purebreed or not. This comment not only insulted me, but all my crossbreed friends out there. The writer stepped on quite a number of tails (no pun intended) with that remark. I AM A CROSSBREED AND I AM PROUD OF IT! --- You are of course entitled to your own myopic, bigoted, shallow opinion, so I am entitled to mine too.

Oops, sorry, I digressed... I must admit that I got carried away there.. Hammer also sent me a toy that I tell you can squeak real loud! Mom didn't manage to get any pictures of me with it cos I was playing 'catch me if you can' with her while she was chasing me around with the camera!

Mom's message to Auntie Susan - Dearest Susan, Of course I do not 'mind' it one bit.. In fact, Mark and I love it so much because 'Waltzing Mathilda' brought back so many beautiful memories of our time in Australia. I can safely say that those 4 years have been the most memorable ones in my life. That's a tune that Mark and I both know and love... (fyi, Mark was humming it the whole night long!! And I do mean the whole night... *sheepish grin*). So THANK YOU Susan, for the beautiful card and precious gift. It brought back many cherished memories for us and I am sure Lucas loves this tune too cos it means so much to his Daddy and Mommy...

How's every pup doing? Hope that you've all got a wonderful weekend, especially for my friends over in the US who celebrated 4th July. I bet the fireworks must be lovely. My mom always loved fireworks and thinks that they are very romantic (??!!). I hope my Baby does not think that fireworks are romantic cos I am terrified of them... *shudders*...

Mom is still at home this week. Her medical leave officially ended last Fri but her boss suggested that she work from home and only return back to the office when she feels that she is ready. Physically she feels fine... but emotionally, I guess it'd take a while.

Over the past week, mom's received some comments from her 'friends' that made her so sad... (I feel like biting the bum bum of those people who made the comments!!). One of them told her that 'the mourning period is over' and that it's time she 'faces reality'. Pawsonally mom feels that she does not need to account to anyone other than to herself and to dad, about how long she takes to grieve. She's already faced the reality that she lost her baby, I mean how else can you account for the fact that the pregnancy symptoms are mostly gone and her used to be pregnant womb now lies empty?? Moreover, it's been only 3 weeks since she lost her firstborn... that is a very much wanted and loved baby, so is that really 'too long' a time to grieve??

The other comment she received was 'it's ok, you are still young, you can try again'... it's like 'hello??'... that baby is a LIFE. It's not about trying again... the next baby will be another life. He/ she will not and cannot replace the one that was lost. Probably a miscarriage is not treated as a form of death by most people. To them, it could be more like a medical condition which you can recover from... like flu??

Things were just begining to improve a little bit over here but after getting those comments, mom felt as though someone ripped open her wounds all over again...

Mom's learnt something from this... When you don't know what to say, it's best not to say anything at all... maybe just let the person know that you care and will be there for him/ her if needed, but not offering so-called 'advice' when it hurts the person even more.

*sigh*

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Hello everyone... Just wanted to let you know that we are fine. Mom's still 'leaking' a bit, especially if she sees a baby or when she sees/ hears something that will trigger the 'tap'. But on the whole, she is slowly accepting the loss and trying to move on with her life.

She's also been trying to keep herself busy by doing up the new house. (From my acute observation, she's not really 'doing up' anything.. she's just unpacking cartons and cartons and cartons of her clothes, bags, accessories and shoes!! You'll be amazed the amount of stuff she has!!) Poor Dad's been trying his best to 'guard' the limited cupboard space he has before her stuff 'invades' into his territory as well.

Most of the furniture has arrived and all of the cartons have been unpacked. So to keep her busy for a longer time, I have taken it upon myself to pee all over the house. *defensively* Hey, so long as it keeps her busy, right??! RIGHT?? The next thing she wants to try to do is read up all the manuals for the appliances ('cos all the appliances are new). The washing machine for one, has been making the weirdest noise when she tried to use it the first time... (and the silly woman forgot to separate 2 new BLACK towels she just bought, so the entire load of clothes were discoloured... the lighter ones ended up in various shades of grey to be exact).

Huskee's Mama (Shane) here - I just want to say THANK YOU to all the lovely people who have left so many words of encouragement and support. Honestly, just a simple 'thank you' is not suffcient to express my gratitude... At the darkest point of my life, you have shown me a ray of light and it really helps to know that there are so many people who cares about us and Baby Lucas.

I have always known that DWB is a great community where there are loads of lovely people with their furry friends, but this incident really showed me just how wonderful all of you really are.
  • Greg, Brooke, Opy and Charlie: Thank you for creating this little piece of Heaven called Dogs with Blogs... (And special thanks to Brooke for your lovely email)
  • Helios' M and MM, Jack & Joey and their HC, Tommy and his parents: Thank you for the lovely flowers and teddy bear. I have given the teddy to Lucas and it is his very first (and only) toy. Teddy is now sitting proudly in the room that is supposed to belong Lucas.
  • Boy and Baby's mom (Mas): Thank you for simply being there and for listening without judging
  • Boo Boo (J), Girl Girl (Eil) and Jay (Jul): Thank you for the very cute teddy and lovely card... She certainly brightened up my day!

  • Angel Lacy Lulu, Bear, Rocky and their mama Claudette: Thanks for checking on us to make sure we are ok...

  • Scuba and his mom (Viv): For checking on me everyday without fail and for your love, support and patience.

To be honest, I am still looking for the 'closure' that I have been seeking cos I know I need to move on with my life and let my angel go to where he belongs. But it really is easier said than done. There is still a lot of bottled up questions, frustrations, guilt and anger... and now I am begining to question myself if there is something wrong with me for not 'getting over it'. Maybe the reason is because deep down, I don't want to 'get over it'... I don't want my baby to be forgotten.

Apologies for my disappearance over the past few days… sometimes it feels good to be missed by my friends!

The mood in the house has been somber for the past couple of days because something bad had happened… something really bad. It’s even worse than me peeing on the bed. As a filial and understanding son, I am letting mama share with you what happened so hopefully she’ll feel better after letting it all out.

Huskee’s Mama here. I just wanted to borrow Huskee’s blog to let out some of my pent up feelings and hopefully be able to find some sort of a closure to this very unexpected, unhappy and unfortunate event. I had been holding back and counting down the days till I could break the then good news to everyone on Huskee’s blog but somehow it just wasn’t meant to be.

**Warning - This is definitely going to be the longest post I have ever put up on Huskee’s blog!! **

On 7 April, exactly one month after my 10th year anniversary with Huskee’s papa, I went to see the doctor as I had a discomfort in my lower abdomen. The doctor did some routine checks and a scan showed that it was a cyst. It was fairly harmless and should go away, but at the same time, the doctor also noticed that I appeared to be pregnant. After a more thorough check, it was confirmed. This came a surprise because we have been trying for a while to have a baby. Preliminary tests indicated that I was about 4 weeks along, meaning that this baby was conceived on the day of our 10th year anniversary. What could be more special and meaningful, right? It is the perfect present for both of us.

With the help of some close friends, we planned a small surprise and broke the news to my hubby immediately after he arrived back in Singapore after a business trip. The word ‘shocked’ does not fully describe his reaction then and he kept asking me to swear that we were not pulling his leg.

Hubby and I were ecstatic about the impending arrival of this new life, so were our family and friends. Along the way, I had some spotting and went back to the doctor’s several times for shots to boost the pregnancy. The doctor gave me some medical leave to rest at home and was also told to try and relax myself and not to be too stressed by work (HA HA!!). Otherwise, all my scans indicated that our baby was developing beautifully and the test results were very good. Other than feeling a little nauseated during the 5th to 8th week, I was beginning to enjoy the feeling of having a little life growing inside me… and also enjoying the undivided attention from my hubby despite it being Euro 2008 !

I was so looking forward to introducing Huskee to his little brother/ sister too… and I really want my child to know and grow up with Huskee because Huskee also played such an important part in me and hubby’s relationship and lives. I was just telling hubby the other day that I can’t wait to take a photo of Huskee and baby during their first meeting… although someone will have to keep a very close eye on Huskee just in case he decides to nibble the baby’s fingers/ toes/ nose/ etc… it’s no secret that Huskee does not react well to things that makes a lot of noise or things that he’s unsure of!

I had some of the typical pregnancy symptoms, i.e. having sore (but HUGE) boobs, feeling bloated, waking up 2 to 3 times a night to go to the toilet, my face was starting to break out with acne, etc. What I loved most was that I noticed my clothes were gradually getting tight, it’s a sign that the little life is growing! I also loved it when hubby put his head on my growing belly to talk to our baby. Ever since hubby accompanied me to my first scan and saw a fuzzy scan of the baby, he was already convinced that it was going to be a boy. Deep down, I had a gut feeling that it was a boy too… call it Mother’s instinct! But whenever hubby referred to the baby as ‘he’ / ‘him’, I enjoyed teasing him by saying that I felt it was a girl and it’d spark off a lively round of ‘debate’.

Hubby loved telling baby that he’d buy him all the toys he could ever ask for and was even planning on buying him a pair of Gucci baby booties, a Burberry stroller, the cute little pullovers which we have been eyeing for a long time from Polo Ralph… the list goes on. Last Sunday, which was Father’s Day, hubby as usual talked to the baby saying that it was Father’s Day and that he was already looking forward to Father’s Day next year when baby will be about 6 months old.

Just as we were going to bed that night, I had a sudden gush of blood and we immediately went to the hospital. The doctor did some checks and said that it was probably due to the fact that my placenta was a bit low. Anyway, the important thing is that the baby’s fine and I saw from the scan that he was happily punching and kicking in the waterbag. I was given a hormone injection and a week’s leave from work. At home that night, hubby even said that it was baby’s way of wishing him Happy Father’s Day.

To be on the safe side, we went to see my regular doctor first thing the next morning. During the routine check, she found out that somehow my waterbag had burst and some of the amniotic fluid had already leaked. Numerous factors could have caused it… infection, stress, the bleeding the night before, etc and there’s no chance of the baby surviving without the waterbag and we had to terminate the pregnancy soon as it may lead to a serious infection for me. We did a scan and although the waterbag appeared a lot smaller, baby's heart was still beating strongly and baby was moving around, although much lesser this time cos he’s got lesser space. At that time, both hubby and I were too shocked to cry or even react to what the doctor told us. It was too sudden… too unexpected.

I could tell that the doctor was as stunned as we were but she told us in no uncertain terms that it was a hopeless case and the baby will not survive. I was immediately warded into the hospital so that the doctor can perform the abortion. Though we knew deep in our hearts that there was no chance for our baby, hubby and I decided to delay the abortion till the following day so that we can spend one last night with our precious darling. Breaking the news to our family and friends was the other difficult part.

That night was the longest night in my life. I cried till I don’t think I had anymore tears left and Hubby cried alongside with me for the baby that we so badly wanted but could never hold. My heart broke into a million pieces and I don’t think it’ll ever mend. We kept telling baby how sorry we were and how much we loved him. I really did not want to keep referring to the baby as ‘it’, so hubby and I decided that if the baby’s a girl, we’d call her ‘Chloe’ and if it’s a boy, he’d be called ‘Lucas’.

The next morning the doctor came and gave me the pills that’d induce the miscarriage and take this precious life out of my body. The pills were to be taken 3 hourly until ‘it’ happens… the first was at 9.20am, then again at 12.20pm. By 12.50pm, I started having minor contractions and it very quickly became full-blown ones by 1.15pm. By 1.30pm, ‘it’ happened… Our baby’s gone.

We told the doctor that we wanted to know the baby’s gender because at 14 weeks, it’s already formed although we weren’t able to tell from the earlier scans. Hubby’s right.. our baby's a boy. The doctor asked if we wanted to see him and we agreed because I was afraid I’d regret forever if I didn’t even get to see my precious baby Lucas. He was tiny… at just 10 cm, he was slightly bigger than the size of my palm. However, he was already perfectly formed… we could see his teeny-weeny fingers and toes. What broke my heart further was how peaceful he looked. He was cuddled up and looked like he was sound asleep. The doctor checked him and said that our Lucas was perfectly fine and would continue to develop if it weren’t for the burst waterbag. Hearing this made me feel even worse cos I felt that as a mother, I failed my duty to protect my baby. MY failure had led to the demise of my baby…

That evening, I had to go through a short surgery to ‘clean-up’ my womb to prevent infection… They will put me under a GA during the procedure and as I was waiting for my turn at the Operating Theatre, I thought about many things during that 30min. Honestly I wouldn’t mind if I did not wake up from the GA… at least I have my baby waiting for me on the other side and he wouldn’t be so alone.

It’s been 2 days since I lost my baby boy… and not a second goes by where I don’t think of him and of the times which we COULD have spent together... i.e counting his little fingers and toes when he's born, trying to determine if he looked more like me or hubby, teaching him how to call us, hubby teaching him to play ball/ cycle/ swim, me nagging at him to keep his toys back in the toy box...

Things are especially bad when I am alone or when I see young children or infants… they had the chance that my baby did not have. I don't deny that I am still angry with the big guy up there for taking away such an innocent life, and would like to know what we did to deserve this, but now, hubby and I have stopped questioning ‘why’… what’s the point anyway? It will not bring our baby back.

Hubby was with me throughout the ordeal and I can say that we grew up through it and it brought our relationship to another level. I saw another side of him that I never knew. He was so strong for the both of us while I kept collapsing in a helpless mess, especially at night. I always thought I was a mentally and emotionally strong person, but this episode proved that I was wrong… so wrong. Hubby was so calm, so rationale when we had to make difficult decisions and had been so understanding. He even blames himself for not having taken better care of me and baby. He also catered to my every need, even in the wee hours of the morning despite him not having any sleep for 2 days straight and tirelessly comforted me through my bouts of crying at all times of the day.

Family and friends have rallied around us during this period, this we’ll forever be grateful for. Many people have also told us that ‘it’s ok, you can try again’, it is said with no ill-intent of course, but honestly, it really is NOT ok… no one will ever be able to replace Lucas in my heart and when they took him away, they also took away a big piece of my heart. Other than our family, there are a few special friends that hubby and I want to thank. 1) Huskee’s Godma aka Scuba’s mom. She’s really been there for me and hubby through all our ups and downs, highs and lows. I reckon she’s also the only person who really understands why we decided to give a name to a 14week old fetus. 2) My best friend for trying her best to comfort me through sms because she knows me well enough to know that I’d prefer to be left alone at a time like this although I know she was worried sick.

During my stay in the hospital, my sweet hubby went to the nearby Tiffany shop and bought each of us a ‘dog tag’ cos of what it symbolizes and wearing it enables us to keep baby Lucas close to his mummy and daddy’s hearts always. It also allows us to engrave some text on one side of it. Like a soldier, our baby Lucas fought a war… unfortunately it was one that he had no chance of winning. I don’t have a photo of the tag now, but the words we inscribed on the tag are:

Lucas Lee
07.03.08 – 17.06.08

Sleep tight, my precious baby Lucas. Till we meet again… And don’t you ever forget that Daddy and Mommy love you so, so much… always.

If you are still reading this, thank you for reading my baby’s short story. I tried to edit to make it shorter, I really did… But decided against it eventually because my poor baby’s life was already so short… I really didn’t want to short-change him any further.

Hopefully, writing this will give me the closure that I so desparately need... Now, things are finally starting to sink in as I lose the feeling of being pregnant... my old clothes are beginning to fit, I don't have to wake up 3 times every night to go to the toilet, my skin seems to be clearing up and going back to normal... but the funny thing is that I am not happy about any of it. I'd much rather wear a rice sack/ table cloth, wake up 10 times every night to pee, have blotchy/ spotty skin, etc... just so that I can have my Lucas back.

Dad has a new hobby which has kept him very busy over the weekend. The 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as Euro 2008, began on 7 June. This time round, the tournament is being hosted by Austria and Switzerland. Other than being glued to the TV at un-godly hours of the night, Dad's new hobby revolves around the Euro 2008. It is *drumroll please* the Euro 2008 STICKER BOOK!! My mom finds it hilarious that a grown man of almost 30 spends a few hours everyday playing with stickers.. *stifling a giggle*...

Mom had something similar to this when she was about 10 years old... the 'theme' of her sticker book then was Care Bears, which has remained her favourite till today. That sticker book is safely hidden somewhere in Grandmama's library cupboard... Mom is quite determined to search for it when she has some time, just to reminisce her childhood days.
Oh and mom bought more Care Bear stuffies at a toy fair recently but I'll save that for another post!

Well, my dad is playing with stickers and my mom's collecting stuff toys (and mind you they are not young anymore!!). Hmmm... it really feels kind of strange when your parents are still behaving like a couple of kids.

This is the sticker book

Packets containing 6 pieces of stickers each at S$1 (approx. US$0.70)

To date, dad's spent close to S$100 on those stickers alone!

This is the team that dad's rooting for... (Dad's 'idol' is Ruud Van Nistelrooy)

So far the book is almost 80% complete... dad needs to buy more stickers to fill up the missing pieces (meaning spend more money!!).

So, are any of your hoomans also addicted to Euro 2008?

OK I guess it's time that I confess what my 'evil deed' was... a number of you guess it correctly and in order to be fair, I will put all the names of the pups who gave the correct answer into a hat and draw the 3 lucky winners. I will announce the lucky winners in my next post.

*trying to sneak away*...

(Got dragged back by mom)... FINE!! I peed a HUGE puddle on the big bed at 11pm and the hoomans had to wash the bedsheet and mattress protector in the middle of the night. They also had no mattress to sleep on that night as we had to air the wet patch. *whew.. it sure feels so much better after I have confessed*...

Seems like everyone is interested to know what 'evil deed' I had done to earn that 40 minutes of punishment at the 'Naughty Corner'.

Ok, in order to spice things up a bit (and hopefully buy myself a bit more time before I have to expose my lil' secret), here's a quiz to make things a little bit more exciting in my otherwise mundane life.

Guess what my 'evil deed' was and 3 lucky winners who guess correctly will stand to win a prize!

1) Chewed a hole in mom's favourite blouse
2) Peed on the big bed
3) Tried to swollow Moosie
4) Performed an opawration on one of mom's Care Bears
5) Had an affair with another pup behind my Baby's back

I did something naughty at 11pm last night and got punished for the 'evil deed'. So as usual, I was made to 'sit' in the 'Naughty Corner' for the looooooooooongest time. Usually my punishment at the 'Naught Corner' lasts for a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 1 hour (someone please call SPCA!!). But because I knew it was my fault, I did not even dare to flinch or attempt to stray from my sitting position in the 'Naughty Corner' throughout the whole 40 minutes I was being punished. To add to my humiliation, they took pictures of my ordeal!!

First 5 minutes into the punishment: Would it help if I said 'Sorry'??

After 20 minutes: Apparently my apology did not work...

30 minutes later: *dozing off* Oh noo... I am falling asleep...

35 minutes later: ...zzzzzz.......

40 minutes after committig the 'evil' deed: Can I go now? I am sleepy...
